Blaho Uhlár and col. DISK: POLYLOGUE - polythematic decomposition

Theatre Na Zabradli, Tuesday, June 28 at 3.00 pm

The forms of expression used are movement, image and sound. The scenes have no theme, they are incoherent and wordless. The expression is unclear. It is impossible to discover any causality in the human activities, which are in certain moments fairly comprehensible, or to uncover the underlying motivations or see the true nature of things. Words take a lot of painful effort to be born but they do not bring any knowledge. Deep concentration however brings intensive experience. When silence falls we can hear the time.

DISK Trnava theatre has been continuously present on the Slovak amateur theatre scene since 1955. The decisive turning point in the history of the ensemble came in 1987 when DISK started to cooperate with the professional director Blaho Uhlár.  DISK with him turned to staging its original plays, brought topical issues to the stage and became one of the pioneers of a new direction in Slovak theatre - the polythematic decomposition. Blaho Uhlár returned to the ensemble in 2006. Under his artistic leadership the group picked up on their previous cooperation and continued in its artistic activity focused on topical issues.

Between 2006 and 2010 the group staged several fairly successful productions in cooperation with Blaho Uhlár. (Perspective – 2007, Crawl - 2007, In Breath – 2008, Submersed – 2009, Polylogue – 2010). DISK is currently trying to find new methods of theatrical expression with the aim to actively involve the audience not only in reflecting on what they have seen but also in developing their own points of view vis-à-vis the antagonisms of the present day and age that the group brings to the stage by artistic means. In its creation, the ensemble strives to release the potential energy of the audience that the latter might not even know of and by means of this impulse to stimulate the audience’s zest and ability to feel and emote and, consequently, their unsuspected ability to form their own opinions rather than passively accept the opinions of the creators.

During its continuous existence the theatre group premiered 61 pieces ranging from plays of international and Slovak authors to the ensemble’s original productions. The productions were performed more than 1000 times and were presented at 16 international festivals in Slovakia and 31 festivals abroad in eight countries.
