Slavka Civáňová, Peter Oravec - Prometheus
Theatre DISK, Wednesday, June 30, 2010, 8.30 p.m.
Greek myth of Prometheus treats the theme of world creation, beginnings of existence of human civilisation, relationship of people to their gods and the relationship of mighty, almighty and whimsical Greek gods to a small human. Very powerful motive is that of fire, without which there is no bread, fire as a symbol of human life, art and intelligence. Fire, which gods took from people as punishment. Prometheus was the one, who returned fire to people. The one, who created people, protected and helped them. Prometheus, who was courageous to revolt against mighty gods and was willing to suffer forever for the human race. The myth also offers a motive of the Pandora box as a symbol of human pain, misery, sorrow, diseases but also hope hidden on its bottom.
Street performance Prometheus is very free interpretation of the Greek myth. It reveals humour and the comic in very tragic and serious moments of development of human society. It offers a detached view and grotesque parody, it hyperbolizes unexpected events and highlights positive thinking and joy of life.
