Abhay Mahajan: CIRCLE (Chakra)

Theatre Na Zabradli, Monday, June 27 at 8.30 pm

Circle (Chakra) is an attempt at portraying ‘the circle of life’.  Set in a pre-historic period, it traces the framework of the preliminary evolution of man – right from the invention of wheel to the discovery of flint stones. It is the Man’s story: his first encounter with death, watching his father die and the struggle that ensues further as he learns and explores Nature all by himself. It lauds man’s Love for Life and establishes what basically sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom – our ability and inherent need to discover, innovate and invent. It makes us realize that our basic survival tactics, the need for a companion and sexual discovery are still an integral part of our being.  A lot of parallels can be drawn between the pre-historic man and us. The constant need to communicate in a better way, their possessiveness about their companions, their coming together in times of adversity, the hierarchy of a tribe and the constant need for each person to maintain his attained place of respect within the tribe are all, in essence, the same trials and tribulations that we face until this day. Chakra is a production replete with learning and entertainment – the story is supported by way of dances and Indian martial arts, and the language of communication being “gibberish”, it is understood by any audience.
