Jean Genet – The Maids
Theatre DISK, Wednesday, June 30, 2010, 15 p.m.
The play by Jean Genet “The Maids” is tragic from the beginning to the very end. Maids Claire and Solange have been serving their home lady for years and, being violently jealous of her, they even try to slay her. This very jealousy becomes the reason for the lover of their Madam to be put into jail because of the maids’ gossip. Out of a sudden it becomes known that he is freed, and they understand that the end has come. Of coarse Mesye would mess all of the house and find the letters written by the maids. And they fully understand-they can never back down, Madam will by all means be slough, and this will put an end to all their problems. The author offers his own version. The servants have killed Madam, but there is no spiritual tranquillity: The ghost of murdered Madam has never left them alone. Passion, wile and the filling of effeminate non-wished brought Claire and Solange to the tragic edge.
