Háy János – Marlon and Marion
Theatre DISK, Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 5.30 p.m.
Sith the Lord said: ‘tis written in their hearts, that they cannot bear durance till the end of their lives. Once the angel falls behind them as their companion for the seventh time, they will get free of their braces and bonds for good and all.”
“In the drama of togetherness and disunion the destiny reaches completion, not love. “Marlon and Marion are beyond space-time dimension, their existence is nonetheless undeniable. The performance tries to detract us from our hurried jog-trot every-days with its peculiar treatment of tempo and powerful pictures. The lovers leave behind traces on the earth’s surface, just like the two dancers on the flour-diffused part of the stage at the very beginning of the performance. During their male-female fight, they first touch the white flour-world of the shape of a perfect quadrate, only with the edge of their toe, then later with their arms and legs, too. In the end, their whole bodies get covered with flour as they dance. They are no more separate from the world, but become more dimensional and fuller with life than the dust-world above which they are floating.“

KOMPÁNIA is a little experimental theatre studio with its base in Hungary, functioning since 1999. It was founded by young actors, dancers and musicians, who finished their studies in the Mezei Mária Art School and the director of the school László Lukács, who leads the company as well. Since that time the studio gathers artists from various fields. We are searching for new ways of expression, working methods, and comprehensibility means, whereby we could preserve and interpret our own heritage in a common wider cultural and historical context. The studio is seeking answers for questions that can only be found by exploring each other’s theatre and cultural traditions. Hence, international cooperation and experience is of a great importance to us.
Kompánia has been running a project entitled Back to Babylon since 2004. Its goal is to create an international studio with mobility and long term cooperating partners. They were searching for the ways of theatrical expression over different languages, the common, universal coherence in communication (dance, music, gesture, human voice).
Their starting point is to dip from the national traditions, roots and process them to contemporary art. Kompánia puts an emphasis on drawing energy and inspiration from authentic dances, traditions, folklore.
